Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is a dark comedy anime series directed by Mitsutoshi Kubota and produced by studio Shaft. The anime is an adaptation of an award-winning manga series written and drawn by Kouji Kumeta.
The story of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei follows Nozomu Itoshiki, a high school teacher who is always depressed and finds reasons to commit suicide. Even the pithiest amount of misfortune makes him cynic about the future. Fortunately, the students at the school love Nozomu, and among the student is Kafuka Fuura, who acts as a beacon of hope for Nozomu. Kafuka is the most optimistic person you will find in the whole world. She tries to find even the smallest reason to overcome any despair.
Other than Kafuka, there many other girls in Nozomu’s class that are unusual and charming in their way. Two of them are Kiri Komori and Matoi Tsunetsuki. Kiri is a shut-in who ends up living inside the school after following Nozomu. Matoi is a stalker who ends up falling in love with Nozomu. While the girls are at the age where they find inspiration in their teachers, but for Nozomu, the students are giving him reasons to get motivated.
