Re:Zero is an anime that takes the typical action-adventure isekai trope and wraps it in a psychologically harrowing fantasy thriller. Re:Zero retains a dark atmosphere throughout and gradually lightens in-between the story. The plot’s core also handles the concept of going back in time each time you die in the anime with the seriousness it deserves.
While the Re:Zero’s lore and the character backgrounds grow on you nicely, the potential it holds is rather in its themes. It deals with many dark and often unexplored themes in a timely fashion, giving a lot of information and a lot of growth that doesn’t feel rushed. Re:ZERO Starting Life in Another World is a psychological fantasy anime series directed by Masaharu Watanabe and animated by studio White Fox. The anime is an adaptation of popular light novel series written by Tappei Nagatsuki and illustrated by Shinichirou Ootsuka.
Synopsis: Subaru Natsuki is an ordinary high-schooler and NEET who spent his days doing nothing but play games. One night, while returning from a convenience store, he suddenly finds himself summoned in a fantasy world called Lugnica. However, soon after his arrival, he was attacked by some thugs and was saved by a mysterious half-elf girl named Emilia.
To repay Emilia for saving him, Subaru decides to help get back her stolen insignia from a thief. While searching, they both get brutally killed. Subaru then awakes again to find himself in the same place, with the same thugs, the same girl. He soon learns that he has the ability which allows him to go to a certain point by dying.
