Demons and Exorcists have been a big part of the supernatural anime genre and are somewhat responsible for anime’s popularity in the international market. Blue Exorcist (Ao no Exorcist) is an anime that heavily depends on demons and exorcist tropes. Like many popular supernatural anime, Blue Exorcist has a certainly intricate dark undertone in its premise. However, the anime also has an interesting and action-filled story that doesn’t stray too far from the main plot.
While Blue Exorcist is a little dark, it does not turn out to be as complicated or deep as one would believe from the excellent visuals and music. The themes and ideas of “son of Satan becoming an exorcist to beat his own dad ” is something very predictable and not innovative.
