In the world of anime and manga, there is always at least one or should I say two-character tropes that will stand out because of their very peculiar traits. As it happens, those also tend to have fascinating background stories and distinctive personalities, which makes them so captivating. And such a well-worn trope is Twins.
Twins in anime are always known as an excellent duo for one odd factーthey can rely on each other and always have each others’ backs. And this dependence leads them to try and connect physically and mentally whenever possible. Creators like to use Twins as supporting or sometimes even as main characters due to the ease of using the bond Twins share.
In anime, twins can share similar choices or even say similar things, but they are two completely different people like any other siblings. But whatever anyone says, twins seem to fit surprisingly well in anime. And unlike live-action movies, anime freely explore the twin’s trope possibilities without holding back. So here’s our list of best twin characters in anime.
Best Anime Twins:
01. Kaoru & Hikaru Hitachiin (Ouran High School Host Club)
Kaoru is the younger twin but acts more mature and level-headed, unlike Hikaru. Kaoru acts mischievously along with Hikaru but turns selfless and serious whenever he is alone with Haruhi Fujioka, his love interest.
Hikaru often comes out as mature but compared to his brother, he has a hard time managing his emotions and dealing with others. Hikaru also has a problem where he is childishly over-possessive over each club member, especially Haruhi Fujioka, also his love interest.
02. Ryou & Kyou Fujibayashi (Clannad)
Ryou often gets overshadowed by Kyou due to her overly shy personality. She usually hangs out with Kyou but also has friends outside her sister’s social circle. Ryou is not a good cook. However, she still manages to do other chores to keep up with her sister. Her hobby is fortune-telling, but her predictions are usually wrong.
Kyou is a bold and strong-headed girl who is considered as an older sister even by her underclassmen. She has a high energy personality and is always looking for ways to entertain her to avoid boredom. While Kyou acts like a responsible student, she often breaks school rules by bringing pets or riding a motorcycle to school.
03. Ram & Rem (Re:Zero)
Ram is also an Oni who works as a maid along with Rem. People in her village refer her as the Oni God’s reincarnation because of her exceptional talent and strength. Ram likes to do things at her own pace.
Rem is an Oni who became a maid along with her sister. She tends to speak politely to keep a fake image of a good maid. Rem has an inferiority complex due to a past incident with her sister.
04. Tsukasa & Kagami Hiiragi (Lucky Star)
Tsukasa has a sweet and innocent but little dimwitted personality. While Tsukasa is good at cooking and other household chores, her air-headed nature results in bad grades at school. She is also clumsy and requires Kagami’s help with skilled tasks such as texting.
Kagami has a tsundere and bit egotistic personality. She is terrible at common household chores like cooking and cleaning. Due to her intolerant and straight nature, Kagami often has a hard time talking to others except for her close friends.
05. Yuuko & Hideyoshi Kinoshita (Baka and Test)
Yuuko is one of the top ten students from her year at school. She is very prideful, arrogant and gets easily angry. But she is also bad at other activities like singing and disguises Hideyoshi to switch places with her to keep up her model student image.
Hideyoshi is a fraternal twin, but due to his feminine looks, he is often mistaken for a girl. Hideyoshi is usually calm and stoic but loses his temper when someone mistakes him for a girl. He is a member of the Drama Club and plays female roles because of his appearance.
06. Rin & Yukio Okumura (Blue Exorcist)
Rin is the son of Satan who desires to become a Knight Meister and defeat his father. Rin has a kind heart and is always looking out to help others. He loves and respects his brother and adopted father. He has a carefree attitude but when it comes to fighting Rin doesn’t refrain from getting serious.
Yukio has a serious but kind-hearted personality. He is also the youngest person to pass the Exorcist qualification exam. Yukio is usually quiet and calm but has mood swings when dealing with Rin’s shenanigans. While Yukio loves Rin, he often gets frustrated with Rin when he puts his life at risk.
07. Kururi & Mairu Orihara (Durarara!!)
Kururi has a reserved and soft-spoken personality. She mostly communicates with others in short sentences. Kururi is the mature sister who makes sure Mairu doesn’t get too aggressive. Kururi regularly attends martial arts classes.
