Idols using music to power up ancient weapons to battle against dangerous alien races could hypothetically make an interesting story. However, Symphogear doesn’t give a good impression, as the story angle of the anime leans very much towards music rather than serious action. The character clichés also wear thin, and anything that impresses anyone beyond that are the visuals.
Symphogear is nothing new for regular anime watchers. The setting, character design, plot, and pacing is so familiar to other action anime because it’s been done before in many different ways. The only individual aspect of the Symphogear is the embodiment of Idol, that varied enough to warrant the interest of the fans of Idol culture.
While Symphogear was unoriginal in its approach, it found success in the later seasons, showing some stunning promises for the fans of the series. If you plan to watch Symphogear, then watch it according to this order.

Symphogear is an original anime franchise created and produced by studio Satelight. Tatsufumi Itou directed the first season of the anime, and Katsumi Ono directed the remaining seasons. The franchise also has a manga adaptation and a smartphone game titled Symphogear XD UNLIMITED.
Synopsis: Earth has been invaded by an alien race called the “Noise,” threatening the world. To fight against these aliens, the idol duo Tsubasa Kazanari and Kanade Amou, known as Zwei Wing, use the power of singing to call upon a powerful ancient weapon, Symphogears, whose knowledge is kept secret to the common people.
One day, during one of Zwei Wing’s concerts, Noise attacks out of nowhere. To protect a young girl named Hibiki Tachibana, Kanade sacrifices herself, leaving the fragment of her Symphogear inside Hibiki’s body. Two years later, while rescuing a young girl from another Noise attack, Hibiki accidentally awakens the power of Symphogear within her. She then teams up with Tsubasa to defend humanity against the Noise.
