Free! is a slice of life sports anime by Kyoto Animation studios. The anime adaptation is a sequel to the light novel series by Kouji Ouji.

Synopsis: Haruka Nanase loves water and specializes in freestyle swimming. Haruka, along with his friends Rin Matsuoka, Nagisa Hazuki, and Makoto Tachibana was part of the swimming club in elementary school. They all use to participate in swimming tournaments and even won a competition. After winning, the four friends went their separate ways.

Years later, in high school, Haruka encounters Rin, who challenges him to a match; however, Haruka loses to Rin. Haruka then decides to form a swimming club with his childhood friends, Makoto Tachibana and Nagisa Hazuki. Rei Ryuugazaki, a former track team member, later joins them. Now Haruka strives to win the competition against Rin and settle the score.
