Kyoukai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary) is a pleasant experience that differs from the many other school-based supernatural anime. The combination of a traditional school setting delving into the supernatural genre while still sticking close to the Moe sub-genre is also a bonus. Its powerfully emotional scenes make Kyoukai no Kanata somewhat better and refreshing from many cliché high school drama.
The anime is a step above what anyone expected from a supernatural-romance series. Kyoukai no Kanata is a supernatural-romance anime by Studio Kyoto Animation. The anime is an adaptation of the Japanese light novel series by Nagomu Torii.
Synopsis: Akihito Kanbara is a second-year high school student who is also an immortal “half-youmu,” a supernatural offspring of a youmu and a human. One day, he instinctively saves his fellow schoolmate, Mirai Kuriyama, from committing suicide. However, he ends up being stabbed by the sword created from her blood instead.
Akihito discovers that Mirai is the last surviving member of the spirit hunting clan known as Spirit World Warrior. Mirai’s clan possesses the power to manipulate their blood to form weapons and protect humans from youmu. But due to a traumatic past, she’s afraid to kill the youmu. This incident leads their lives to become intertwined as Akihito attempts to help Mirai gain the confidence to kill youmu.
