What makes a good anime? While there are many answers to this question and each one differs based on the nature of the story. Anime like Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) is one of the shows that proves that you don’t need to have a complicated plotline or deep characters to be a good anime. Demon Slayer is yet another hit by the studio Ufotable known for producing the Fate series. They have done a spectacular job with using vibrant colors in the animation. The cleverly directed battle scenes in Kimetsu no Yaiba are now hottest topics in the anime community. The beautifully crafted fight scenes are also the reason for the popularity of this series.
Synopsis: After the death of his father, Tanjirou Kamado shoulders the responsibility of supporting the family. Tanjirou lived a happy life with his family, even though living in poverty at a remote mountain. One day, he went to a local village to sell charcoals for money. While returning home, it got dark, and an older man offers Tanjirou a shelter while warning him about demons that roam in the night and eat human flesh. After hearing this, Tanjirou accepts the older man’s invitation.
The next day, when Tanjirou returns home, he sees a devastating sight of his family slaughtered. To make matters worse, his sister Nezuko, the sole survivor, is now turned into a demon herself. After facing this grim reality, Tanjirou swears to avenge his family and turn his sister back into a human. In the chain of events, he learns about the Demon Slayer Corps and sets on a journey to become a demon slayer.
Honestly, Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) is like just like other shounen anime, which follows a fairly linear story. But credits to studio Ufotable for turning this into a visual feast from the first minute of the first episode. The studio really outdid themselves and just can’t praise them enough.

01. Dororo
Samurai lord, Daigo Kagemitsu’s land, was dying, and he was ready to do anything for it. Twelve demons accept his prayers and grant him the power to grow his land. In return, they take his newborn son’s limbs, nose, eyes, ears, and even skin. But the baby still survives and was left off on a riverbank.
Luckily a passing medicine man takes the baby and raises him. As the kid started growing, he accidently discovers that killing a demon can returns his organs. The medicine man gives him prosthetic limbs and weapons to fight against these demons. On his journey, he meets Dororo, an orphan who befriends him and helps him in this demon-infested land.
02. Ao no Exorcist (Blue Exorcist)
Rin Okumura was always able to see demons lurking in the shadows. But one day, the demons started attacking him, and on that day, he learned a secret that would change his perspective. There are two worlds, Assiah and Gehenna. Assiah is where humans live, and Gehenna is where demons live. The ruler of Gehenna, Satan desires to conquer Assiah. And Rin is the son of the demon king who was sent to the human world.
Now Satan demands him to return to Gehenna so they can conquer Assiah together. Rin declines the offer after witnessing Satan’s cruelty. Rin also learns about exorcists who fight demons and decides to become himself to protect Assiah. The story follows Rin’s journey of self-discovery as he trains himself to become an exorcist with his brother Yukio.
03. Claymore
Youma are shape-shifting demons who crave for human flesh. One day, such a demon arrives at Raki’s village and kills his family. A silvered eye woman with a sword on her back also comes to the village following the demon. She exterminates the Youma and reveals herself as Claymore. She is a half-human and half-youma whose sole purpose is to kill these monsters.
After his family’s death, Raki gets banished from his village and decides to follow the Claymore named Clare. As they travel from town to town, killing these creatures. Raki starts to learn more about the Claymore organization and other Claymores.
04. Owari no Seraph (Seraph of the End: Vampire Reign)
After a mysterious virus wipes out any human above th age of 13, hidden vampires emerge to rule over humans in return for blood. Two young orphans named Yuuichirou and Mikaela Hyakuya get taken as captives along with other children from the orphanage. After getting tired of being treated as livestock by the vampires, Mikaela plans an escape with other kids, but it fails horribly.
Yuuichirou turned out to be the only survivor of this escape plan and was later found by Moon Demon Company. A military organization with a goal to exterminates vampires. The story follows Yuuichirou as he grows older and plans to take revenge against vampires.
05. Bleach
Ichigo Kurosaki is a high schooler who has powers to see ghosts. One day while returning from school, he witnesses a fight between a Soul Reaper named Rukia and Hollow, a corrupted soul that devours other human souls. After returning home, the Hollow attacks Ichigo’s family. But luckily, Rukia was able to save Ichigo’s sister but gets injured in the process. Rukia offers Ichigo to become a Soul Reaper so that he can kill the hollow and protect his family.
After accepting Rukia’s offer, Ichigo becomes a Soul Reaper and kills the hollow. However, Rukia finds out that she is no longer able to return being Soul Reaper. Now Ichigo is tasked with protecting his town from the Hollows while managing to live an ordinary high school life.
06. D.Gray-man
Allen Walker is an exorcist who, after spending three years learning from General Cross, is sent to the Black Order. The goal of the Black Order is to fight against Millennium Earl, who uses trapped souls called Back. The weapons made with the souls are called Akuma, and only an exorcist with an anti-Akuma weapon called Innocence can save the trapped souls.
Allen has an arm as Innocence, and a cursed eye to track down the trapped souls. It’s now upto Allen and his fellow exorcist to track down Millennium Earl and stop him before he makes an Akuma, which can destroy the world.
